Introducing: Fast Follow Summit
A fresh perspective on podcast conferences. Plus, an invite to another LA podcast happy hour hosted by Off The Record.
Hey friends. Dane here. With four months of Off The Record events under our belt, I think it’s about time I share my intentions with this brand: I enjoy building community among smart, kind, and thoughtful leaders within (and beyond) the podcast industry in hopes our work can feel a little more collaborative and connected.
I know many of us are working toward striking that difficult balance between maintaining our creative integrity and building sustainable businesses that can support our livelihoods and those of our teams.
Yes, there’s so much opportunity ahead to be excited about, but it’s also important to acknowledge and support those questioning whether their work in podcasting is even a viable option anymore, especially when so many among our ranks have been impacted by layoffs, corporate bankruptcy, or downsizing this year (myself included).
I can’t answer this question for anyone, but I can confidently say that no matter the curve balls thrown our way, the power of our industry remains its people.
This is where Off The Record’s first annual Fast Follow Summit comes in, where we’ll identify some new pathways for podcasting to thrive.
As some of you saw on LinkedIn, our summit will take place on November 6—one day prior to RESONATE Podcast Festival—and feature voices at the nexus of new distribution nodes within our creator-led media ecosystem: podcasting, newsletters, social video, subscription, and live experiences.
As we finalize invitations this week, we ask that you indicate interest in attending here if you haven’t done so already. Given our limited capacity, I’ll be sure to notify everyone we won’t be able to issue tickets to as a courtesy.
This is sure to be a memorable week for the podcast community and I’m grateful to Chioke I’anson for trusting me as a co-curator to support programming around his fourth installment of RESONATE. It feels good to put my energy towards envisioning what we can build together as creators. I hope to see many of you there!
Separately, but equally as exciting, we’re partnering with our sponsors, Listening Party Agency and Voicing Change Media, to host another happy hour for the LA podcast community on July 22 from 6-9PM. In fact, the entire team from Rich Roll's creator network will be in attendance, so if you work in the genres of health & wellness, sports, or culture, this one’s for you!
Please RSVP here if you can make it.
